Adrienne Lubbe (conductor and piano)
Enjoy soul-stirring music, feel revitalized and be captivated when sixty-six bells and twenty-four bell ringers present a well-balanced programme of music from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic Periods as well as Contemporary and Folk Music (Irish, Spanish, Zulu, Afrikaans). Included in the programme are “Lascio chio Pianga” (Rinaldo-Handel), “Drinking Song” (La Traviata – Verdi), “Bohemian Girl” (Balfe) “Schlafe, mein Prinzchen” (Flies) and “The Fairy Waltz” (Reisiger).
The clear ringing Schulmerich Carilons (German Bells) were purchased in Switzerland in 1978 by Newcastle Senior Primary School. The enchanting Hungarian Bells followed in 2005. An interesting variation is produced by accompanying percussion instruments and piano playing which makes the experience even more memorable.
Audiences of varied musical taste have attended their performances when sharing the stage with the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir, SA Welsh Choir, KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and PMB Children’s Choir. They are also six-times SA Champions in the national SAMBA Competition in the category “Melodic Percussion.”
