Four cellos and a mezzo

A combination of poems by South African poems and Gershwin songs for soprano and four cellos, as well as works for cello ensemble (Baroque to contemporary). “A Skein of tongues” was set to music by cellist and composer Michael Viljoen and includes poems by Lebogang Mashile, Antjie Krog, Ronelda Kampfer and Magog ka Dumizulu. The Gershwin songs, including Summertime and Someone to watch over me were arranged by Michael Viljoen for soprano and cello ensemble. Works for cello ensemble include a range of pieces from Baroque to contemporary: a Trio by Cervetto, Nomtini (SA Traditional), Tango for Four, A short South African Suite and 1.
