Sonja van Zyl (piano), Carel Henn (cello)
The cello-piano duo of Carel Henn and Sonja van Zyl present three of the most diverse, but most beautiful Sonatas in the cello and piano repertoire. The programme starts with the Sonata no. 3 in G minor by J.S. Bach, a heavenly composition displaying Bach’s masterful creative genius. Following the Bach, is the solemn, but stately Sonata no. 2 by Ludwig von Beethoven, in which Beethoven as composer and concert pianist can truly be admired. The concert will conclude with the Hungarian Folk inspired fantasy world of the Sonata op. 4 by Zoltan Kodaly, a great platform to hear this rarely heard gem with all its rhythmic and harmonic intricacies. This program provides close interplay between the two instruments, and the heat emanating from both sides of this duo will leave you wanting to hear more.
