Cellist Aristide du Plessis and Pianist Andrew Warburton take on some of the most formidable challenges for the cello and piano duo combination. Audiences can look forward to the Johannes Brahms Sonata no. 2 for Cello and Piano, Op. 99 which was written in 1886; Franz Schubert’s Sonata for Arpeggione and Piano (performed on cello), D. 821 which was probably commissioned by Schubert’s friend Vincenz Schuster, who was a virtuoso of the Arpeggione; as well as Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capricioso, Op. 62, a short but extremely virtuostic work written by Tchaikovsky in 1887 for the cellist Anatoly Brandukov.
