Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote his Requiem commissioned by an anonymous philanthropist, and according to legend believed that he was busy composing his own funeral music. His work on the Requiem in d-minor was an all-consuming passion for Mozart during the last months of his life. He left his final masterpiece unfinished at the time of his death on 5 December 1791. Carl Czerny, born in the year Mozart died, and for many years Beethoven’s assistant, was Liszt’s teacher. He transcribed the Mozart Requiem and arranged it for four-hand piano accompaniment. Sempre Opera Soloists together with Ensemble Fons Partita and the pianists Paul Ferreira and Eugene Joubert join forces to bring you this memorable performance in the majestic, historical DR Church.
