Viola Flowers

Judith Klins (viola), Eugene Joubert (piano)

The programme is a unique, mesmerizing combination of Max Bruch’s Kol Nidrei, composed in the style of Hebrew liturgical music and extremely well suited to the warm, dark sound of the viola, Robert Schumann’s Maerchenbilder which are highly evocative and picturesque fairy tale scenes put into music, topped off with Niel van der Watt’s Flowers of the Drakensberg which is a suite in 7 movements depicting species of flowers found in the mountains there. Van der Watt’s music is often cinematic in style, fascinating (and harmonically pleasant) to listen to and crosses all sorts of styles to mould them into a new, unique musical language. There will be a visual show combined with the music.
