The Golden Age – Musical encores for violin and piano
Camelia Onea (violin)Eugene Joubert (piano)Join Camelia Onea and Eugene Joubert as they take you on a musical journey of their favourite encores from the Golden Age of both the violin and piano – from the 19th to the early 20th centuries. This period highlighted the unique musical personalities of composer-pianists and violinists by translating their characters into their compositions. These works, often also known as transcriptions (arrangements for their instrument of other composer’s works), came to feature as encore pieces after a recital – a musical way of thanking the audience for their support. Camelia will present Kreisler’s Rondo and Spanish Dance, Massenet’s Meditation, and Monti’s Czardas, amongst others. The programme will also feature Eugene at the piano, presenting transcriptions such as Balakirev’s The Lark, Grünfeld’s Soirée de Vienne, and Gershwin’s Love walked in.
