Unheard (of)

Mietze Dill (cello) | Mareli Stolp (piano)

“Unheard (of)” is both a celebration and a glorious journey of discovery into the works of those who were marginalised and deemed unworthy of the canon. At the heart of this refreshing programme is the sublime Cello Sonata in A minor, Op. 5 by British composer and suffragette Dame Ethel Smyth (1858–1944) — a work of astonishing power and depth that deserves to be far better known.
Sharing the stage are Five Pieces for Cello and Piano by American composer Amy Beach (1867–1944), the breathtakingly beautiful Solitude (Rêverie) by French composer Rita Strohl (1865–1941), and the elegant Sérénade, Op. 46, No. 1 by compatriot Mélanie Bonis (1858–1937).
Together, these composers chart a parallel history of classical music — one that is finally, and justly, being heard. Mietze Dill and Mareli Stolp bring warmth, intelligence and advocacy to every note.
